Track Record

What I’ve done only matters if it transfers to your company.

Founders hire a fractional COO to build a company that scales and runs without them in every decision. Below is the track record, with a straight read on what it proves and what it doesn’t.

Six reasons my ramp is under 30 days

Each of these is a capability you won’t pay me to learn on your engagement.

Compliance and risk

Compliance ready before diligence asks for it

Built SOC 2 and PCI compliance postures from nothing at two organizations. Managed PII and regulated data governance at enterprise scale at Verizon.

Health IT delivery

I know what an enterprise health buyer expects

As Principal of ZEFER’s Health and Life Sciences practice, led engagements for Johnson & Johnson and Siemens Healthcare, including a large-scale digital health and enterprise IT implementation at J&J.

Executive operating leadership

Judgment from someone who has carried the number

CEO and COO roles at several companies, with full operational and financial ownership of the business. The seat itself, instead of an advisory chair beside it.

Science under pressure

The science and the numbers, defended in court

At Greenleaf Medical Systems, evaluated whether virtual reality technology met the performance terms of an exclusive medical-use contract, built the damages model, and defended both in court.

Healthcare policy

Fluency in how healthcare gets paid for

Testified before the Senate Finance Committee on Social Security in 1996, and before a congressional commission on Medicare in 1998, as a board member and Treasurer of Third Millennium.

Clinical foundation

Your clinical team talks to me directly

Trained as a bioengineer at the University of Pennsylvania, then put that training to work in medical device R&D at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, a Harvard Medical School affiliate.

The case studies I don’t have yet

Worth saying plainly.

I don’t have a healthtech case study library to show you. Engine No. 9 has operated since 2003, and the focus narrowed to healthtech and medtech recently, so those case studies are still ahead of me.

What I can show you is above: compliance infrastructure, regulated data governance, enterprise health IT delivery, and P&L ownership, each built under real regulatory and financial stakes, more than once. The Spine runs on that capability, and it’s why my ramp is under 30 days instead of ninety.

If you need a published healthtech case study before you’ll speak with me, I understand. If you’d rather be the company it gets written about, that starts with a diagnostic conversation.

What people say

From people I’ve worked with, in their own words.

Much of the operating model still lived in my head. The change came when our conversations stopped being about everything FiSystems could potentially do and became about what needed to happen next, who owned it, and what would move it forward. I began to see FiSystems less as a growing collection of ideas and more as an operating company.
Jim ButlerFounder & AI Solution Architect, FiSystems
Alden was instrumental in establishing processes and procedures that were clear and easy to understand, but still scalable, with specific points for metric evaluation that allowed us to pinpoint friction areas and improve them. His understanding and application of finance allowed us access to badly needed capital, which was carefully and strategically allocated.

What it buys you

The ramp goes to your company

A generalist COO spends the first quarter learning healthcare before starting on your company. I skip that quarter. The early weeks go to finding your gaps, and building starts before the quarter ends.

The difficult question already has an answer

When a health system asks about your data governance, or an investor asks about your compliance posture, you won’t have to say “let me find out.”

One person for three conversations

The clinical conversation, the board conversation, and the compliance conversation all land with the same person, so nothing gets lost between them.

Be the next proof point.

If this sounds like the operator who gets you there, the next step is thirty minutes, no charge. Bring the current state of your company, and we’ll work out together whether this is the right engagement. If it’s not, I’ll tell you that too.
